Our weak local democracy in Ireland.

Getting rid of Town Councils has been a burden for local business, local community groups and the voters. In both the political sphere and the economic sphere we are moving towards greater centralization of power. More and more areas of our lives are controlled by political and economic elites. In the d Soviet  Union all power was centralized by the top elite. Ordinary people were slaves to this system. It is foolish to say our society is like the old Soviet Union. But we are seeing a breakdown of the post World War II order. A society of an elite at top indifferent to the many who struggle to survive is unstable.
