Dress code in the Dail.

There has been a public debate about what a TD should wear in the Dail. Some TDs in recent years are wearing more casual clothing. They believe that it gives them an anti  establishment look. Some TDs have always worn casual clothes. They believe that they shouldn’t change their clothes just because they got elected. It is worth remembering that Joe Higgins a radical socialist TD always wore a suit. There is even a Dail committee looking at this issue now.

On a personal level I always dress formally for party events.  I believe that as I represent a political party on these events I should look respectful. But there are more important issues facing Ireland than the Dail’s dress code. We can focus too much on the smaller issues.  The big pictures can get forgotten. Maybe politicans should focus more on economics and public services instead of these issues. If the voters are concerned with  the dress code in  the Dail they could use their vote.
