Political developments in Ireland in 2017

Some political commentators in Ireland are wondering if we could have a general election next year. If recent polls are to be believed the outcome of such an election wouldn’t change the political formation in Ireland.

We have a minority government in Ireland. It is kept in power by Fianna Fail. This government is an unstable government by its very nature. A return of the same minority government will not change anything in Ireland. This government has governed by kicking the can down the road. It seeks to put off difficult decisions for as long as possible.

This post seeks  to look at the political situation without giving solutions. The solutions to our present problems are in the hands of the voters. As we enjoy the holidays life goes on.
