Edward Bernstein, Bernie Sanders and USA.

I am reading about the early German Social Democrat Edward Bernstein. He sought to revise Marxism. He sought a post Marxist philosophical foundation of Social Democracy. I will be dealing with his thought on revisionism in future posts. I will be dealing with his thought in relation with German and Russian revolutions after World War 1. Stay tuned.

I get the impression that some people don’t understand the rise of Senator Bernie Sanders. They compare the United States with other countries with strong social democratic parties. They misread America. America today is like Great Britain over 100 years ago. Over 100 years ago Britain was dominated by the Liberal and Conservative parties. But the economic needs of the majority of the people were neglected by the 2 major parties. The Labour Party was created and it grew. Bernie Sanders is like a modern day Keir Hardie.

The choice in America today is between a Wall Street agent Hillary Clinton and a reactionary populist Donald Trump. if America doesn’t embrace social democracy then the danger of reactionary authoritarian politics will grow. The political revolution continues.
