Between secular and sectarian states.

As an example of anti Christian persecution the terror of the French Revolution is mentioned. But this example has nothing to do with secularism. It was one form of sectarianism trying to persecute those who opposed the new state religion. During this era the goddess reason was to replace Catholicism. Atheists and agnostics fell out of favour with this new state religion. This state religion was an insult to true reason. In the name of reason irrational terror was unleashed on the people.

True secularism was proclaimed in the 19th century. Secularism means that religion should be a private or a personal matter. Many liberals and socialists supported secularism including the German Social Democratic Party. The state should be neutral in regard to these issues. A secular state means freedom of religion and freedom from religion.

I notice my blog is getting many views. If I had more time I could write more posts. The burden of being busy.
