Brexit, Britain and the E.U.

If I must be a one person news source though my site and books then so be it. Hopefully I can earn a living from it in some way.

Britain will face a vote on its membership of the E.U. This will be a decision of the British people alone. The majority of Irish parties and the majority of Irish people support our membership of the E.U.

If Britain leaves the E.U. it could face a deeply divided nation especially if the Scottish and Welsh people want to stay in the E.U. If Britain leaves the European Union it could face an increasingly disunited Kingdom as well. The problems facing the British people will not be resolved by leaving.  To face a Tory government who only cares about the city of London alone is the stuff of nightmares.

The European Union is not perfect.  I support the social European model. Decisions in the E.U. are made by the council of ministers and the European parliament. If we Europeans continue to vote for politicians who represent the interests of the wealthy elite then European policy would serve those interests. In Ireland our political parties are in different political groups in Europe. When we are electing parties in national elections or for the European parliament we are shaping the future future of Europe.

Fianna Fail are in the liberal group this is the same group that the Progressive Democrats used to belong to. Fine Gael are in the European people’s party who is the conservative group. This group dominates the E.U. Labour are in the social democrat group. This group used to be the biggest group in the European parliament.
