We are going to celebrate and remember an event that happened 100 years ago. We will celebrate and remember the Rising and the proclamation of the Republic. This document wanted an Ireland free and equal for all women and men.
The nationalism of 1916 is a civic nationalism. It rejected a nationalism based on religion or race. All citizens of Ireland are Irish. Any forms of racism and sectarianism is alien to Irish nationalism. This Ireland should be democratic with social justice for all.
This ideal isn’t fully realised today. The work of 1916 continues today. The ideals of a free equal and democratic Ireland for all women men should inspire us even today.
