The parties are laying out their different visions for Ireland as we prepare for the general election. I hope the voters will carefully consider when they vote what type of Ireland they want. I am a social democrat and I believe that the Labour Party is the best means to achieve a better Ireland for workers, farmers and small business. The majority of the voters didn’t vote for us in 2011 but in government we achieved a fairer recovery that what the Troika wanted. More work needs to be done. Do we as a people want a better Ireland? The majority of people didn’t vote Labour in 2011 and yet Labour insured that the measures taken was as fair as possible. Yes more work needs to be done but only Labour can achieve a social democratic Ireland.
I don’t want auction politics or negative politics. I want a better Ireland. The previous Fianna Fail Green government cut the minimum wage thus hurting the workers struggling to survive. Yes more needs to be done but the neo liberal ideology which benefits the super rich must be challenged.
Negative campaigns shows a lack of ideas. We need a new social democratic Ireland that represents the people and not the elites and I believe only the Labour Party can achieve this better Ireland.
