Change or die.

With many events happening in the news it is important to stand back and look at general principles from time to time.  I believe that if any political institution doesn’t adapt to changing forces in history it will die. I believe that change and humanity goes together.  If we don’t adapt and reform history will ignore us.

As a historical example I would like to use the example of the British and the French monarchies.  In the 16th century both the English and the French developed the modern centralised state. In France the Kings centralised power, the Kings were absolute monarchs.  After 1789 when the French Revolution broke out Louis 16th couldn’t share power with Parliament.  Now France is a Republic. Actually France has gone through 5 Republics.  In Britain which had conflict between Kings Charles 1st and 2nd and James 2nd and Parliament over power the results were different to what had happened in France.  In 1689 Parliament rejected James 2nd and invited James daughter and her husband William of Orange to be King and Queen of the country.  From now on the monarch had to reign with power held by Parliament.  Britain from that date has evolved into a parliamentary democracy.
