British general election of 2015

The results are in. The Conservative party got a small majority. In Scotland the SNP gained the most seats. The Scots will reject rule from London. I can see the break up of the UK as a possibility. At the very least I can see resistance from Scotland to London rule. The new government will allow the UK to vote on staying or leaving the EU. This measure will be have problems for Britain, Ireland the the EU. Northern Ireland seems to be the most stable area with DUP and Sein Fein dominating local politics. If Scotland continues to resist London rule a border poll might be on the agenda again in Northern Ireland. The Liberal Democrats, the Greens and UKIP are still minor parties in Westminster.

The underlying problem with Britian is its voting system. The 1st past the post gave too many seats to the major parties while it left the minor parties like UKIP under represented. A fairer voting system like the one we have in Ireland would make every vote count. It would also better reflect the true wishes of the voters. The effects of this election on British politics hasn’t started yet.
