social democracy today.

The arrest of Paul Murphy TD and others last Monday has dominated the news. But as the case is pending I will refrain from saying anything. I await developments with interest. I will say that the guards are a mainly unarmed democratic police force. They are not the Czarist secret police. We have a good police force and I respect the great job that they do.

Developments between Greece and the EU continue. The government of Greece has a democratic mandate. I hope this problem can be resolved. This crisis could be an opptunity to continue to make the EU more democratic. If outside forces continue to threaten Greece through money a nationalist backlash could develop in Greece and the European economy could continue to get worse. Let us hope that the Greek situation will be resolved and that the birthplace of democracy will continue as a democracy.
